In oriental medicine the meridians are the pathways by which energy or Ki (also called Chi) travel through the body. Gary showed me another point, midway down the neck that helps to release tension in the area that lies under the saddle. In addition to releasing tension over the loins and point of the hip, you also see a release in the poll. Remarkably, when you check the horse’s back after this, they are soft and no longer react to pressure. While often the horse is initially resistant, (certainly, Freedom needed some reassurance from Gary before he would stand still and relax), but then their eyes soften and the begin to lick and chew. Freedom was just tight all over, but he was also slightly reactive to pressure in his loin area. Just last week when he was at my barn he felt that both Freedom and my friend’s horse, Fortune, had tension in their backs. But I’ve seen it work on my horses and on other people’s horses several times. Okay, so it sounds pretty new age age and out there. He uses acupressure on the bladder meridian points behind the poll to perform what he calls an “energy transfer.”Īccording to Wikipedia, “A procedure known as a mind-meld involves physical contact with a subject (though instances of mind-melds without contact have been seen), making it possible to share thoughts, experiences, memories, and knowledge with another individual.” Truly, it seems that when Gary does this, he sends his own energy and calm feelings to this sensitive area of the horse. One of the coolest things he does is something that reminds me of the “Vulcan mind meld” that Spock used to perform on Star Trek. Fortune starts to release tension after receiving the "energy transfer". I’m always watching him to learn techniques that I can use in between his visits. He’s the only saddle fitter that I’ve worked with who helps “fix” their backs when he fixes the saddle and it seems to yield very positive results. If they are sore, or tense, he will often do some body work to help release the tension. When Gary Severson comes to my barn to fit saddles, the first thing he does is check the horses’ backs. Nothing too serious since it actually kinda lends itself to the gritty grimy nature of the film. The only notable spot I saw was during that car ride when they pick up Edwin Neal - the shot of Allen Danziger with the bright white window was where I saw some brief jumblies. The one little caveat for this particular disc, there does appear to be some ever-so-slight noise artifacting that wasn’t apparent on the Turbine disc. However, to date, this 4K Dolby Vision presentation is the best we’ve had on disc. Since it was shot on 16mm reversal, this is always going to be a dodgy title with interesting color saturation and blown-out whites and some deep dark black levels that borderline on crush. Running side by side, even ripping the discs to do a video comparison yielded no discernible difference - which isn’t bad at all considering that Turbine Medien disc was terrific. Since they used MPI’s base restoration for their release, it’s not a surprise that they would use Turbine’s HDR grading and finishing work for the Dark Sky Film’s edition. The discs get their own separate bays and a double-sided poster is included.Īs previously mentioned, this 2160p 1.85:1 Dolby Vision (and HDR10) transfer is the same as the one Turbine used for their 2022 disc. I picked up the SteelBook release offering the classic theatrical poster art with metallic embossing on the chainsaw and door. The discs load to identical animated main menus, the only difference is this Dark Sky disc is in English. Essentially this 4K disc is virtually identical to what Turbine issued earlier in 2022 for their StreelBooks and MediaBook releases. Conveniently enough the same long week off work I’d watch this film, I’d also take a crack at The Last House on the Left and I Spit on Your Grave. Hell, ashamed to admit it but my first introduction to Leatherface was Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation! I hadn’t seen a horror movie with some guts to it. Up to that point I’d just seen simple run-of-the-mill slasher sequels. This was one of the first of very few horror films that actually deeply disturbed me when I saw it. Enois Duarte’s reviews stand for this film.īut for a quick two cents of my own, I dearly love this movie. As we’ve covered The Texas Chain Saw Massacrea few different times now, I’ll let my colleague M. We had more food, check BG’s and took photos.īack down we went it felt good to have two done and to enjoy the view of Clew bay and Atlantic. Getting there first felt so good just to be the highest in Connaught for all of 10 seconds. As we neared the top I got a head rush to get there first been from Connaught and having the flag in my bag. But we continued and as the ground got harder it was getting a little bit easier. So same again food and bg’s and off we headed across the wet marshy ground it didn’t take long for the hard slog to take it toll slowing us down. We landed on the beach Silver Strand to be welcomed by a few local sheep and my family was there also. We headed west to Mweelrea(819 meters) just outside Louisburgh, Co.Mayo. Bags loaded let the flight begin if you ever get a chance to fly across Ireland it’s just a nice from up there as it is on the ground. One of the best bits was to come we were choppered across our beautiful island. This felt really something that we could achieve. Oh the joys to get to the bottom and one peak down. So a quick bite and bg’s down all happy off we went back down. When we arrived at the top it was one of the best views of that week the sunrise over the Irish Sea was unreal. I think we were about 20 minutes faster than expected now it’s not a hard walk but the buzz among us just pushed us to get it done. The adrenaline was pumping through us we seem to be running up it. So bags packed and our climbing bag ready off we went. It was an early night as we were due to start before sunrise. We headed off to our first climb Slieve Donard (852 meters) Co.Down. The weekend of the challenge began with a bus trip to Dublin for me to meet the team. I got a lot of useful information and tips from them. I was only 2 years diagnosed so I was the last one to be diagnosed in our group. First getting to know more about diabetes and finding out how others coped with it. I know I missed a few things in my life that year that I would of been at from weddings to GAA match but it was all worth it.Īs the weekend approached I started to get excited about been on this adventure. Over the next few months we would head off to the other peaks and learn more about ourselves and each other. That was Lughnaquilla (926 meters) in Co.Wicklow. I learnt a lot that day about watching what to eat the night before and morning of to maximise energy levels. I can remember my blood glucose numbers been around the 20 mmol/l mark in the car park so I was a bit slow starting off but as the sugars dropped I got my pace up. The first day of our training was hard due to meeting new people, keeping an eye on blood sugars and it been so foggy up the mountain. I received the brief of what we were about to undertake hill walk the 4 highest peaks in each province in less than 36 hours. It all started for me when I was asked would I like to show people anything is possible for someone with diabetes? Of course, I said yes why not. Twenty years ago 9 people with diabetes and medical staff completed the Four Peaks challenge in less than 36 hours.
